Licensed property specialists, Sidney Phillips has completed on the sale of the Aleppo Merchant Inn, a destination public house located in the village of Carno in Powys.

The village of Carno stands in some of the most spectacular countryside in Mid Wales on the A470 trunk route 8.5 miles north-west of the town of Newtown linking South and North Wales. It is also renowned as the home of the Laura Ashley family with Laura Ashley herself being buried in the Church Yard at Carno.

The Aleppo Merchant is located in the heart of the village opposite the Church and is a building dating back to the late 16th and early 17th Century. Indeed, it takes its name from a local man who is known as one of the Merchants of the Aleppo. Aleppo being a town in Syria which was one of the first medieval trading ports linking the Orient with the Western World.

Our clients owned the property for just under 16 years and during this period invested considerably in the upgrade of the building. It now benefits from quite superb trading areas with a four section restaurant and large interconnecting lounge bar and public bar. The external areas, gardens and smoking solutions, beer patios etc blend into the trading areas comfortably and at first floor there are six high quality en suite letting bedrooms all decorated in Laura Ashley furnishings, materials, and wall papers.

In addition, which was of particular interest to purchasers, there is a separate attached stone-built bungalow providing excellent owners accommodation. Furthermore, the property benefits from e is an unused cottage with planning permission for four guest letting rooms, which could again be utilised as separate accommodation.

The Aleppo Merchant has for many years traded as local pub attracts ‘drive out’ trade from the nearby villages and towns with parties visiting due to the good reputation the business has for its catering sales. It also benefits from being adjacent to the famous Higgins Rally School which attracts visitors throughout the year. Tourism is also strong in the area with many people enjoying country pursuits within the surrounding area as well as those stopping on their way to the West Wales Coastline.

Sidney Phillips sold Aleppo Merchant Inn off a freehold asking price of £450,000.
