The Davy Lamp, a historic pub situated in the village of Kelloe has been sold through specialist pub agents Sidney Phillips to first time buyers.
The pub is set within the village of Kelloe, 5.5 miles south-south-east of Durham in an area which saw rapid expansion in the 1800’s due to the growth in the mining industry.
The Davy Lamp is named after Sir Humphry Davy’s 1815 invention, a safety lap use to reduce the risk of explosions within the mines. The premises comprises of an l-shaped bar with seating for 40, a function room with seating for an additional 40 plus, and a large three bedroom owners accommodation above.
Although closed at the time of sale, the Davy Lamp offers massive potential for a new operator to establish a food-led business, utilising the former catering kitchen. This potential has been identified by local first-time buyers who will be re-opening the pub shortly following initial refurbishment works.
Sidney Phillips sold the Davy Lamp off a freehold asking price of £125,000.
