London Calling? Sidney Phillips’ licensed business opportunities

This week something in the licensed business news cycle beaked - sorry, piqued our interest; KFC had opened its first ever pub in London. The pub, named ‘The Colonel’s Arms’ in Hammersmith was designed to give customers a different experience of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Only open from 25th November to 1st December, the limited edition venture has been headed by Jimmy Bullard, English former professional footballer.

The trends we’re seeing reflect a similar confidence across the leisure and hospitality industry. Pub prices continue to remain strong in the capital and, although pubs in the city have been unsurprisingly affected by the Working from Home boom, tourism has bounced back incredibly since COVID-19 hit.

It’s not just publicans who are experiencing positive footfall across thresholds. Hotel Hotel occupancy, Average Daily Rates (ADR) and Revenue Per Room Available (RevPar) are now higher than pre-pandemic figures. Foreign investors are still keen to acquire hotels in London, as well as corporate and regional operators very much looking to expand their portfolios, even with the saturation of information about the cost of living crisis across media publications.

Whether you’re better acquainted with the The Nag's Head in Only Fools and Horses, the Leaky Couldron in Harry Potter or the Queen Vic in Eastenders, the fictional London drinking establishments are just as much a part of British culture as the almost 4,000 pubs that line the streets of our capital city. Between this and the healthy figures being toted out by the leisure sector as a whole, Sidney Phillips look forward to the continuation our involvement in the London hospitality market.
