The Star, a destination pub situated in the village of Lidgate near Newmarket in Suffolk has been let through leisure and hospitality property specialist, Sidney Phillips.
The Star occupies a detached two-storey Grade II listed pub which dates back to the mid-1500s. The property benefits from being the only public house and main amenity in the village of Lidgate, which is located 6.9 miles southeast of Newmarket.
From December 2023 until January 2025 The Star was operated under management, trading as a destination public house and restaurant offering an extensive range of real ales and ciders as well as a traditional pub classics menu which included homemade pizzas. Events included cocktail evenings, quiz nights, beer festivals, ‘Meet the Brewer’ evenings, local history gatherings and many more well attended day and evening functions. The business was recently crowned the West Suffolk CAMRA Pub of The Season and entered into CAMRA’s 2025 Good Beer Guide.
Zaine Lamont, Regional Valuations Manager for the Eastern Counties office handled the letting and commented: “I am delighted to have found an enthusiastic and experienced operator for The Star in Lidgate. After a number of years away from the licensed trade I am especially pleased to welcome back to the industry the incoming tenant, and I have no doubt that under his stewardship The Star can become one of the go to venues within the area.”
