The Rorkes Drift is a property in the very centre of the market town of Brecon in Wales. The pub is Grade II listed and dates back to the 17th century.
The town is the home of Dering Lines: home of the British Army Infantry Battle School, and the 160th Welsh Brigade. The Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh is also located there and this facility attracts many visitors and houses a total of 18 Victoria Cross Medals, including some awarded at the famous South African Battle of Rorkes Drift during the Anglo Zulu War, from which the pub took its name. The 24th Regiment (one of the precursors to the modern-day Royal Welsh Regiment) played a pivotal role in the conflict, achieving a series of significant military successes. There are many other reminders of this battle located in Brecon, in its Cathedral and the 14th century Harvard Chapel now known as the South Wales Borderers and Monmouthshire Regiment War Memorial Chapel.
